Being healthy starts with what you put into you body and also what is absorbed into your body from your environment. You can practice meditation, have positive thoughts, practice giving and receiving and everything else, but if you’re putting toxic stuff into your body, all your other efforts will be futile.
I have always known our ancestors held the key to longevity and sustainability. They survived an ice age, climate change and the test of time due to their oneness with the planet. Our origins are the key to sustaining life and thriving in our world. We must go back to our roots of being symbiosis with the planet.
Much of our food today is what many refer to as being ‘frankenfood’. It’s simply not real. If you look at our great-grandparents and what was in their cupboards and pantry, you will find that there was nothing that came in plastic or cardboard packaging. They went to markets and either grew their own food or had a close relationship with farmers in the area. This was real food or as some call, live food. Many of us are missing live food in our diets.
Another thing that has become common in our day-to-day life is chemicals. Scientists have found that babies are born with 250 different chemicals in their bodies. As we grow older, the amount staggers. A couple of years ago, I was guided to Google the chemicals that were in many of the products I used on a daily basis such as: shampoo, conditioner, lotion, hand soap, dish soap, laundry soap, makeup and cleaning products. What I found shocked me. Many of the chemicals were carcinogenic and not only that but endocrine disruptors. Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that, at certain doses, can interfere with the endocrine (or hormone system) in mammals. These disruptions can cause cancerous tumours, birth defects, and other developmental disorders. Many chemicals are also found in our food. Have you ever read the ingredients on the box or package of the food you purchased and found that you couldn’t pronounce many of the ingredients? Not only are we eating the chemical ridden food but we are also feeding it to our children.
Another thing that is rampant in our food is sugar. A couple of weeks ago, I looked into how much of the food we eat has sugar; food that you wouldn’t normally expect to find sugar in. I found that it was in many things that most wouldn’t expect (if you haven’t ever looked into it or tried to be health conscious before) like pasta sauce, milk (including almond and soy), most dairy products, some breads, sauces of any kind, and pretty much anything pre-packaged or made in a factory on large-scale.
I recently watched a documentary called Origins and it was packed full of information on our origins as a human species, why we survived this long, what has brought about the steady decline in our health and happiness, and simple steps that can change our health right away doing as little as changing our diet and limiting or completely eliminating chemicals from our food and environment. If you really want to be healthy, the first step I believe is educating yourself on all the different dynamics of everything connected to our health and well-being. The documentary is being screened for free for 10 days until the 22. Please take the time to watch it before the free screening is over.
