This is a natural, effective & gentle all around go-to healing cream for baby.
This recipe is so simple, quick and easy to make & is primarily used for baby’s bum rashes BUT it is gentle enough for anything. This is the only cream I use on my baby. Any little red marks, irritation, etc. This is our multi-purpose healing cream.
I only use two ingredients with this cream; coconut oil & calendula infused oil. Here is a link to infuse your own herbal oils if you haven’t done this before. You could also purchase it pre made at Mountain Rose Herbs, here.
The beauty of making this recipe is that you really can’t mess it up. There’s no right or wrong amount to add together to make it work, but if you want a general guideline:
- 2 tbsp of coconut oil (preferably melted, makes it easier to blend together)
- 1 tbsp of calendula oil
Mix together well & keep in an airtight container. I keep ours in this handy Epicure Prep Bowl. They have a tight silicone sealable lid & come in a set of 4. (They also have measurements built right into the glass.) Super handy!
Once the coconut oil cools it will firm back up.
You can customize this recipe to include beeswax if you’d like to make it a thicker cream but I like just using coconut and calendula infused oils as it stays soft and is easy to use and quick to penetrate the skin.
Extras could be added, such as aloe, lavender, shea butter, chamomile. Play around with this recipe to see what you like best. Just be sure any essential oils are properly diluted for baby’s sensitive skin. (please always research this before hand.)
If you add beeswax, you could also whip it up with a hand mixer to get it light & fluffy! ^_^ Chill or let cool before mixing.
With anything, please test a very small amount on baby first as they could have a reaction to the coconut oil. (Or any other added ingredients)
