This was our very first time making bath bombs! We are thrilled with how they turned out!

We included some of our favourite oils & salts for their skin nourishing benefits. We’ll definitely be trying out different ingredients in the near future.

These are perfect sleepy time bombs. Lavender helps to calm and relax us. Perfect for right before bed, these can be helpful to send you off to sleepy-land. ^_^

  • ½ cup Citric Acid
  • 1 cup Baking Soda
  • ½ cup Cornstarch
  • ½ cup of Himalayan or Epsom Salts
  • 2 tbsp melted Coconut Oil
  • 2 tbsp Jojoba Oil
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract (optional. vanilla usually darkens over time. Would make a nice natural look, though.) If you’re going for that crisp white look, skip this and go for essential oils instead.
  • 5 drops of Essential Oil(s) (optional) I used Lavender for our Vanilla Lavender Bombs (Because Lavender is so strong to me, I only used 5 drops but most recipes call for 8-10 drops)
  • Colouring (optional) Natural Colourants
  • Front Decorations, we used Lavender Buds for these ones. (optional)
  • Filler Decorations You can also mix lavender buds throughout for that beautiful herbal look. They also double as a nice calming bath bomb option. I didn’t measure how much I put in, but I’d say it was about 1/3 of a cup.

I mixed all of the dry ingredients in a big glass bowl. If you’re putting lavender buds in the mix, you can toss those in now too.

Sift or mix the baking soda with your hands. It tends to clump together which we don’t want for our bombs.

In a measuring cup or heat proof glass dish, mix your coconut oil (melted), jojoba oil, colouring & essential oils.

Slowly pour your wet mix onto your dry ingredients. Try not to pour it all in one spot. This makes for easier mixing & less of a chance of it reacting.

Using your whisk, start mixing all of your ingredients together. You can mix with your hands as well. Use gloves if you’re gifting these.

*If the mixture isn’t staying together or is crumbling apart when you try to grab a clump, lightly spritz with water or witch hazel. Only one or two spritzes to start & mix, mix, mix. The citric acid & baking soda will react to the water so don’t put too much at once.

If you’re using lavender buds for front decoration, drop a few into the bottom of one half of the mold.

Here’s where things got a bit tricky!

I’ve always seen people pack the mix in as tight as you can & leave a bit heaping over each half of your mold, then press the 2 halves together while using a turn and press technique until you are able to close your mold. – This was not working well for me. I made out with more halves than wholes.

So, the day after I made them, I watched my friend Tammy’s Proper bath bomb molding techniques video and she shows how much easier they work when you just heap the ingredients in and don’t pack it down. I will definitely try this next time we make bath bombs. I hope you have more luck than me.

SO the proper way to pack the mold is to put a loose but heaping amount of your mix into each side of your mold and then press them together. You can also gently tap the mold with a spoon to release the mix from the mold and very carefully remove your bath bomb.

If you’re using silicone molds, pack in as tight as possible. (& leave in the mold until they solidify)

Place somewhere dry and allow to sit for at least 24 hours.

Wrap them up nice and pretty. Give as gifts or enjoy yourself.

Happy Bathing! <3
